Planning Commercial Concrete Cutting: A GC's Checklist

Keep the concrete scope off your critical path — what to line up before the cutting crew arrives.

01Get the cutter involved early

The most expensive concrete cutting problems are planning failures: openings marked after pour-back schedules are set, no access for equipment, no plan for slurry and spoil. Bring the cutting contractor in during scope review — method, access and sequencing decisions get cheap when they are made early.

02What we need from you

Drawings or marked-up photos, slab or wall thickness if known, reinforcement information (post-tension is critical), site access details, schedule windows, and whether scanning, removal and haul-out are in scope. With that, a commercial estimate comes together fast.

03Sequencing with other trades

Cutting usually sits between structure and mechanicals — before plumbers, HVAC and electricians rough in. A specialist cutting partner who can mobilize multiple crews, work nights and hit tight windows keeps every downstream trade on schedule.
