Egress Window Openings: From Cut to Code

Turning a basement into legal living space starts with one precise cut in the foundation wall.

01Why egress windows matter

Ontario building code requires proper emergency escape openings for basement bedrooms and many finished basements. An egress window brings in light, adds value and makes a basement bedroom legal — but it starts with a correctly sized, correctly placed cut in the foundation.

02The cutting process

We cut the opening with track-mounted saws, remove the concrete section, and leave clean square edges ready for the window and well. Cutting from inside or outside depends on access and landscaping; excavation for the window well is typically part of the same visit.

03Getting the size right

Egress openings must meet minimum clear-opening dimensions under the Ontario Building Code. Confirm the required size with your contractor or inspector before cutting — we cut precisely to the measurements your project requires.
