Why You Should Scan Concrete Before Cutting

Rebar, post-tension cables and live utilities hide inside every slab. GPR scanning finds them before the blade does.

01What is inside your slab

Concrete is never empty. Slabs and walls contain rebar, wire mesh, sometimes post-tension cables under enormous stress, and frequently embedded electrical conduit, water lines or radiant heating. Cutting blind risks injuries, structural damage and expensive repairs.

02How GPR scanning works

Ground-penetrating radar sends radio waves into the slab and reads the reflections to map embedded objects and their depths. The technician marks findings directly on the concrete so the cutting plan can avoid hazards — or account for them deliberately.

03When scanning is non-negotiable

Post-tension slabs (common in commercial buildings and parking structures), any slab with unknown utilities, and cores or cuts near electrical rooms should always be scanned first. On our commercial projects, scanning before cutting is standard practice, not an upsell.
